Modern ‘klokkestreng’ home decoration

‘Klokkestreng’, or bell pull, is a well known tradition in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. Originally, a bell pull was a thick rope tied to a bell, which you could ring by pulling the rope, and call your servants. Times changed, and the klokkestreng rope developed into a narrow needle point embroidery with metalwork on each ends. The bell pull embroidery was popular in Norway in the 1960’s and 70’s.

DSC_4887I find this tradition inspiring, but instead of cross stitching, I want to invent more modern versions.

I used pieces of various fake fur fabrics to make this whimsical and humorous modern klokkestreng.

This item is available for purchase in my Etsy shop.
